Screen Shot 2017-03-07 at 12.47.31 PMThe 16-year old American driver is excited to be joining the Newman Wachs Racing Team to compete in this weekend’s race.

“When the opportunity came up to partake in the first race of the 2017 USF2000 season with Newman Wachs Racing, I couldn’t refuse” said Das. Having tested with the team in Sebring a few months back, I knew right away the team would be a serious contender for the championship this year. They have a great group of individuals who have put together a fantastic package. St. Pete’s will be a new track for me since I missed the race last year, but I’m eager to add it to my repertoire for future endeavors.”

Das performed really well while testing with NWR last month in Sebring, and Team Manager, Brian Halahan was quite impressed with his performance.

“The kid was fast right from the start, commented Halahan. We’re delighted to have him on board with us for this first race of the season. We’ll work hard on giving him all the support he needs, and hopefully, we’ll be able to continue to have him with us at more races. He will be driving our #38 car.”

The Baltimore native started his racing career in 2015 in F1600 Formula F. In 2016, aside from running in the USF2000 Championship, he competed in the US Formula 4 Series where he dominated for the second half of the season with 8 wins, and won the Championship. Das turns 17 in a few days and sees this as a great birthday gift.

Alan O’Leary, Team engineer thinks that Das will fit right in with Dakota and Andre. “It’s fantastic to have Cameron with us this weekend. We had a great test with him in January and I know we can pick right up from there and get down to work.”

About the Newman Wachs Racing Team:

Newman Wachs Racing (NWR) is a racing team owned by Eddie Wachs and, until his death, American actor and racer himself, Paul Newman. NWR is based outside of Chicago, in Mundelein, Illinois. Newman and Wachs shared the same passion for racing and met when they both competed in the Can-Am Series in the mid-1970’s. They raced together for 15 years in Trans-Am, Can-Am, and many other SCCA professional venues. Over the years, they talked about joining forces to create a driver-development race team. They put together a Champ Car Atlantic team for the 2006 season to meet their objectives. In 2009, John Edwards won the Championship for NWR, beating teammate Jonathan Summerton in a tiebreaker.

About the USF2000 Series:

The Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda debuted in 2010 and is a continuation of the highly regarded USF2000 series that ran from 1990 through 2006, launching the careers of many of today’s top drivers. Sanctioned by INDYCAR, the series is the first official step on the Mazda Road to Indy. In addition to providing a vital training ground for rising stars, the series champion will earn a scholarship package from Mazda to advance to the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, the next step in the ladder system.

Aside from being one of the most successful driver development programs in the world, the Mazda Road to Indy ladder system has attracted competitors from all over the world, while providing a unique, scholarship-funded path to reach the Verizon IndyCar Series and Indianapolis 500.
